Dangerous Caterpillars

A large, yellow caterpillar with what appear to be black antennas was spotted crossing the towpath just north of Lambertville, NJ. If you encounter one of these pretty monsters, don’t try to pet it! The bristles, which contain toxin, can break off and embed into your skin and cause an irritated, itchy, burning rash.

Lambertville After Hours

On September 6th, the Lambertville Chamber of Commerce held another successful After Hours event on Church Street. This family-friendly gathering featured a DJ, dance floor, group painting, refreshments, activities, and more.

New Hope Fireworks

The After Hours event ended just in time to walk down to the river and watch the last New Hope Fireworks display for the season. The drone show featured lots of football-related imagery, including trophies and the words, “Go Birds!”

Grand Opening

On the same night as the New Hope Fireworks, Lambertville locals and visitors alike gathered for the grand opening of Invertase Brewery on Lambert Lane.

A food truck parked outside of the new brewery and sold pizza, while inside people enjoyed tasting the beer created by brewmaster, Stephen Zolnay.

Cross Pollination Gallery Turned 7

On September 6th, painter SiriOm Singh and fiber artist Ayala Shimelman hosted a gallery party to celebrate their 7th year in business in Lambertville.

The gallery, which was originally located on Bridge Street but is now located on N. Union Street, features painting lessons, live music, community gatherings, and the opportunity to buy art made by these prolific, gallery owning artists.

Fighting Words

On September 9th, a stopped car blocked the road on Coryell Street. The driver appeared to be talking with some people. At first it seemed they were going to say goodnight and get out of the way. However, they did not move.

The man with the hat yelled at the driver, saying the driver was stupid for being aggressive since the man in the hat was there with several other guys. The driver and passenger got back into their car. The man with the hat told the driver to take his “piece of shit car” and leave.

The man in the hat continued to yell, and he pushed on the car door shut on the driver. Someone from in the alley—possibly one of the guys to which the man in the hat had referred—yelled, “fucking liberals!”

The couple in the car drove away, and the man with the hat and the woman who stood by him walked into the alley that leads to Revolution Woodfire Grille.

Construction Paper ≠ Construction

There’s paper covering the windows at the former Finkles Hardware store, which could mean someone is doing work inside, but it could also mean nothing.

There’s a business card for a construction company on the window too, and people have been seen going in and out of the old store.

Hidden Picnic Table

LambPage previously reported about FenceGate, where the pathway behind Canal Studios was closed and locked to prevent pedestrians from passing. There used to be a picnic table by the gate, but in September it was removed.

Turns out the table was placed behind the fence that surrounds the trash dumpsters. Management cited finding drug paraphernalia as a reason they closed the gate, and then they hid the table behind a fence. 🤔

Street Art Strikes Again

Thank you to the person who keeps posting photographic prints on the corner of Bridge Street and Union Street. Let’s all post random artworks around town!

It’s safe to say that Lambertville locals will soon be expressing themselves (in the form of skeletons, spiders, and skulls). Actually, that’s already happening.

The Building that Haunts

Wouldn’t it be great if the owners of the former Ota-Ya Japanese restaurant at least stuck a ghostly image behind one of their windows in time for Halloween?

Speaking of Halloween...

They’re Back!

By September’s end, the Memory Maker’s Trail of Magic was up and running.

Thanks to the Lambertville Creative Arts Fund, you can see Delores Dragan’s glowing creative nightmares in businesses and shop windows all over town.

Positively Delicious

The storefront display at La Chocolate Box never disappoints. One year they had sound effects that were triggered with a foot switch. The next they had a life-sized evil monkey monster that stayed to celebrate several more holidays. Make sure you go by to see whatever you call this beautiful and terrifying creature.

It’s been wonderful watching the community decorate for Halloween. As we slide into autumn and October officially gets underway, remember that these are the good old days, because masks might become common all year ’round.
